The Main Federal Autumn Cultural Event

Cultural sensation: Original birch-bark manuscripts of the 11-14th centuries in Moscow. Only November 17 open to the citizens and guests of Moscow within the opening of the National school of calligraphy!

This November a long-awaited event will take place in Moscow. The first National school of calligraphy will be opened at Sokolniki Museum and Educational Complex.

On November 17, the opening ceremony will be held with the officials and federal medias taking part in. At the ceremony you will see summing-up the results of the world’s largest International exhibition of calligraphy, successfully taken place in Velikiy Novgorod (September 10-12, 2010), presentation of the National school of calligraphy and new exhibits of the Museum (today masterpieces from 43 states are represented here).

Original birch-bark manuscripts of the 11-14th centuries from the State Novgorod United Museum-Reserve and the unique Four Gospels (1575) from the Cathedral of St. Sophia of will be displayed in Moscow for the first time.

November 17, 12:00 -2:00 — opening ceremony for the officials and medias

November 17, 2:00 до 8:00 — an open-to-the-public one-day birch-barks exposition.

November 18 2:00 до 8:00 — the National school of calligraphy open day

Venue: Contemporary museum of calligraphy (pavilion 7), EcoCentre Sokolniki, Museum and Educational Complex, Sokolniki Park.

The School will be operating on the permanent basis since November 18. Yuri Koverdyaev is to be a School curator. He is a renowned Moscow calligrapher, a member of Artists Trade Union of Russia, famous for his International Exhibition of Calligraphy’s participation, experting in copperplate print calligraphic portraits and birch barks. In addition, Yuri Koverdyaev is a designer of securities.
