Calligraphy boom in the Ukraine

 
 
 

The art of calligraphy is actively developing in the former USSR. The Asian countries are no wonder but the increased interest in calligraphy, for example, in Ukraine is worth mentioned.

Ruthenia, the Ukrainian festival of calligraphy and typography will be held on November 12-14 in Kiev for the second time already. The venue remains the Kiev State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design named after M. Boychuk.

Under the organizers the main purpose is the calligraphy interest revival in the Ukraine and promoting a culture of the Ukrainian letters. Participants will gather from all over Ukraine with calligraphers, type designers and students of art institutions among them.

The International Exhibition of Calligraphy is encouraged to be followed by such the events in Russia and abroad demonstrating the relevance of this art to people.

By the way, four well-known Ukrainian calligraphers are collaborating with the International Exhibition of Calligraphy project. These are Vasil Chebanik (calligrapher, fellow of the National Ukrainian Artists’ Union, honored art worker of Ukraine, professor at the National Academy of Fine arts and Architecture), Vitaly Mitchenko (calligrapher artist, assistant professor to the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, member of the Ukrainian Union of Artists.), Yaroslav Kutz (designer, graphic artist, associate of the Ukrainian Academy of Printing) and a young calligrapher Alexey Chekal (art director in graphic design studio, teacher at the Kharkov State Academy of Design and Art).
