On the first working day of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy the master class of Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky was the last (but not the least!)
Mr. Borshevsky is a calligrapher from Israel. The amateurs of beautiful handwriting could attend his master classes during the exhibition in St. Petersburg. Now the Muscovites also have this opportunity.
Master class of Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky
According to the artist, in а three thousand-year long Hebrew culture writing and calligraphy play a crucial role. Creation of sacred texts is subject to certain rules. Inaccuracy and light-mindedness are impossible. Any mistake made requires rewriting of the entire text.
Master class of Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky
Master Borshevsky who broke the Guinness book record writing the longest mezuzah knew what to tell the audience (a mezuzah is a piece of parchment inscribed with specified Hebrew verses from the Torah). As for the audience, they took up their chance and attentively followed the calligrapher’s pen and felt a little bit envious for the master’s skillfulness and talent.
An opportunity to share experience and professional secrets is one of the museum’s peculiarities which make the exposition so interesting. If the art of calligraphy is close and familiar to you (and if you never heard about it – then all the more so!) look through the exhibition’s business programme and present yourself 40 minutes filled with interesting discoveries and mysteries of the world calligraphy.
